Most Exciting Phoenix Suns Games of All Time

Phoenix Suns

Phoenix Suns have had their share of memorable games in their history. These are the most exciting games we have witnessed.

Suns at Bucks Game 7, Milwaukee 1976 (Finals)

The Suns have been on the brink of the championship several times, but they’ve never reached the top. Among their best teams were the 1976 squad that lost to the Boston Celtics in six games and the 1993 squad that lost to Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls in six. Perhaps their most exciting game ever was Game 7 of that 1976 series, which went double overtime and featured a controversial ending.

The Suns were the underdogs in their first NBA Finals appearance. They would go on to face a Bucks team with three future Hall of Fame players (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robertson, and Bob Dandridge). The series was tied 3-3 going into Game 7 in Milwaukee. The Suns jumped out to a big lead early. Things became very tense as the Bucks clawed back into the game by halftime. The Suns then went on an 11-0 run to extend their lead in the second half. The Bucks tied it late in the game and forced overtime, where they eventually won 101-94 for the championship.

The Suns had a seven-point lead with less than two minutes remaining in regulation when the officials gave Phoenix’s Garfield Heard a technical foul for hanging on the rim after scoring. John Havlicek made both free throws, and then Paul Westphal fouled Dave Cowens, who made both of his free throws to tie it.

In overtime, the teams traded baskets until Milwaukee took a 102-100 lead with one minute left. The Suns called timeout and set up a play for Dick Van Arsdale, who drove past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to hit a layup and tie it at 102. The Bucks called timeout but missed a final shot, sending it to another overtime.

Suns at Bulls Game 6, Chicago 1993 (Finals)

The Phoenix Suns had been there before. They fell behind in the second half, tied it up at the end of regulation, and scored just enough to pull off a victory in overtime. What made the difference was that this time, they weren’t playing the Portland Trail Blazers or Seattle Supersonics. They were playing the Chicago Bulls in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. And when it was over, they had their first title in franchise history.

The Suns had already been to the Finals twice in the ’70s, but this was a new generation. The Suns were the West’s top seed and had the league MVP in Charles Barkley, while Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen led a Bulls team that had just won back-to-back championships.

The series went six games with Chicago winning the first two at home. Phoenix tied it up with two wins at America West Arena and then dropped Game 5 at Chicago Stadium. This set up a decisive Game 6 back in Phoenix.

The Suns put on an awesome display of shooting from all over the court, shooting 61 percent from the field and 55 percent from three-point range. That included Dan Majerle going 7-of-9 from downtown and Barkley hitting 8-of-14 shots overall for 35 points.

Phoenix won the game 128-121 to force Game 7. It was their only win of the series, but still one of the franchise’s most memorable games ever.

Suns at Lakers Game 5, Los Angeles 2006 (1st Round)

If you are one of those people who believes that the NBA has become too much of a player’s league, the 2006-07 Phoenix Suns would be Exhibit A. They were a team of castoffs and misfits who came together under head coach Mike D’Antoni and played fast, exciting basketball. In fact, they were the only team to score 100 points in every game during the regular season.

Unfortunately, they never really got any respect. Most pundits picked them to fall in the first round of the playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers. But it was not to be as Steve Nash and company took out Kobe Bryant and Co. in six games for one of their most memorable victories ever.

The 2006 NBA Playoffs weren’t exactly the most memorable postseason in Phoenix Suns history, but this game was pretty special. The Suns were up 3-1 in the series, but were on the road against a Lakers team that had Kobe Bryant and a younger Lamar Odom.

What followed was an incredible display of basketball by two of the best players in the league. In a back-and-forth thriller, Bryant and Nash both finished with 48 points, with Nash adding 11 assists to his total and Bryant adding 10 rebounds.

It looked for a while as if Nash’s heroics would be enough to secure a win for Phoenix on the road, but it was not to be. Down 114-112, Bryant took over. He scored 10 straight points for L.A., including a clutch three pointer with just over a minute left to give the Lakers a 120-114 lead.

The Suns would cut into the deficit late thanks to some free throws by Nash and eventually got it down to just three points at 125-122 with only seconds remaining, but they could not get any closer.

Suns vs. Spurs Game 5, Phoenix 2007 (1st Round)

The Phoenix Suns were on the brink of elimination. They were down 3-1 in the series, and just lost Game 4 by 17 points on their home court. The whole world had counted them out, but not us. We took to the streets to find other Suns fans who still believed in our boys. We found a few believers and even some haters who didn’t think the Suns could pull it off.

The Suns had won Game 3 of the series by three points after a last second shot by Steve Nash. So we knew that they could beat the Spurs if they just played their game. But in Game 5, they did more than play their game — they beat the Spurs at their own game.

The Suns won both games in San Antonio, and when they returned to US Airways Center, they won both games there too. The Spurs were shocked by how well the Suns played defense throughout the series, but it was especially impressive in Games 6 and 7, when they held Tim Duncan to 37 points combined in two games.

The Suns had a 3-1 lead in the series, but the Spurs won Game 4 at home to even the series. The Suns were up by as much as 21 points in the game, but Tony Parker led a 24-5 run to get within three with just over six minutes left.

San Antonio tied it at 93 on a layup from Manu Ginobili with 2:01 to go. Tim Duncan hit a jumper to give the Spurs the lead for good, but it was still only 99-97 with 57 seconds left. Boris Diaw missed two free throws for Phoenix, and then Parker hit two free throws after an intentional foul on Steve Nash to make it 101-97 with 10 seconds remaining. Leandro Barbosa scored four points in five seconds to cut it down to one, but Parker hit one free throw with 1.9 seconds left to make it a two-point game. Nash missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have won it for the Suns.

Phoenix Suns Will Return To Glory in This Year’s NBA Season

As the NBA season is set to hit off very soon, many fans are excited to see what their favorite teams will bring to the table. One of the teams that has been underperforming in recent years is the Phoenix Suns. The team has recently invested in a new coach and hired some big names to help get them back into contention as they look to make a splash in this upcoming season.

One of the most exciting things about being an NBA fan is watching your favorite team succeed and win games. However, it can be hard for fans when their team isn’t doing well, which is why people are always rooting for a resurgence from their favorite squads. The Phoenix Suns have been one of those teams that have had a hard time winning games in recent years but with the addition of Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton, there are reasons for optimism heading into this season. Here are some reasons why I believe that the Phoenix Suns will return to glory in this year’s NBA season this year.

Devin Booker – key component this year

Devin Booker, who has been playing for the Suns since 2015, will continue to be a key component of their offense this year. He has averaged 20 points per game during his career and is rapidly improving as a player. The team has also added two other promising players in Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges who will help Booker on both ends of the court.

The team’s coach, Igor Kokoskov, is going to prove himself after his first season at the helm. He showed that he can make smart adjustments as he led the team to success late in the regular season last year. The team is also full of young talent that needs to be managed properly and Kokoskov will have another year under his belt with these players.

Paul George is one of the most talented swing players in the league today.

Paul George is one of the most talented swing players in the league today. He has an incredible handle on his size and strength, which allows him to play both guard positions at an extremely high level. He can shoot threes with ease and is one of the best defenders in basketball right now. If he can get better at creating for others and improve his decision making when driving towards the rim, then he could become an All-Star-caliber player by next season.

Most analysts believe that Paul George’s arrival to Phoenix is going to change everything for the Suns. With his ability to play as either a shooting guard or small forward, he is expected to make life easier for Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton. The three-time NBA All-Star has all the tools needed to lead a team on both ends of the floor. If he can stay healthy and remain focused on winning games, there is no doubt that he will help Booker and Ayton bring back Phoenix as one of the best teams in the Western Conference.

The Phoenix Suns have made some impressive acquisitions

The Phoenix Suns have made some impressive acquisitions in recent years, including landing All-Star forward Kevin Love via trade with Cleveland Cavaliers last season and signing center Tyson Chandler away from division rival Dallas Mavericks this summer.

The Suns also drafted talented young prospects such as guard Devin Booker and forward T.J. Warren, who will join a roster that already boasts point guard Eric Bledsoe and center Alex Len.

The addition of Love, who averaged 16.4 points and 9.7 rebounds in a career-high 75 games last season, will be key to Phoenix’s offensive game plan as he will be able to space the floor with his three-point shooting ability while being a threat on the interior with rebounding ability at 6’10” tall.

Chandler is a defensive upgrade over the departed Miles Plumlee, who was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks this summer along with fellow big man Tyler Ennis in exchange for Knight. Chandler averaged 10.3 points on a career-best 67 percent field goal shooting last season while grabbing 11.5 rebounds per game, which was good enough for third in the league behind Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard (12.4) and Los Angeles Clippers forward DeAndre Jordan (13.6).

Ways To Show Your Support For The Suns This Season

As a Suns fan, you’re already familiar with the team’s most popular merchandise — hats, jerseys and the like. But what if you want to show your support in a different way? Here are some ideas.

Share Your Suns Pride

Share your enthusiasm for the orange and purple with friends and family on social media.

Show Your Colors

Wear orange and purple every day, or at least on game days. You could go all out and make it your official uniform, or just try to have those colors represented in your wardrobe somewhere. If you’re feeling ambitious, t-shirts are easy to make and the only time they don’t look stupid is when you’re supporting your favorite team.

Deck Out Your Room

You don’t have to be a kid to do this one. Obviously you can get posters of your favorite players and hang them up, but it doesn’t stop there. How about a carpet that’s colored like the court? Bedding in team colors? Even paint can work for walls that aren’t shared with other people.
